African and Afro-Cuban Percussion

Play Your DrumKaleidoscope Community Music has previously run workshops and short courses in African drumming and Afro-Cuban percussion which will be returning soon.

African rhythms were taught in a group learning basic tones and techniques. Participants got to play bass drums (djun djun, sangban and kenkeni) and learn support parts and solo phrases. Bells and chekere were also used and the rhythms taught were generally from Guinea.

Workshops in Afro-Cuban percussion included playing clave, basic technique for congas and folkloric rhythms including rumba, palo and makuta.

We can also take our drums to schools, youth clubs or team building events. Contact us for more details.
